Nottingham is a vibrant city and a natural place for storytelling, enjoying centuries of tales of folklore as the original home of Robin Hood, the great Outlaw and his arch enemy, the Sheriff of Nottingham!
Prime Writing Academy is looking for original, unpublished short stories for our exciting competition with great cash prizes and publication in the Nottingham 2012 Short Story Anthology for the winners and runners-up. Entries must not exceed 2,500 words and can be about any subject. The closing date is 30th April 2012. Please ensure you read the rules of entry (below) carefully before entering the competition.
We are proud to announce our Head Judge is prize-winning novelist, short story writer, lecturer and editor, MJ Hyland. Please see our 'Authors' page for a biography of her impressive achievements to date.

FIFTEEN runners-up will win publication in the Nottingham 2012 Short Story Anthology with a free copy.
ONE £50 prize is available for Best Nottingham Short Story Writer (for writers residing in Nottingham City or Nottinghamshire). This will be included in the prize money if a Nottingham resident wins 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.

Methods of Entry:
Online payment & submission: Please use our online payment facility to pay by Paypal, online bank transfer or credit/debit card. Then email your entry (see rules) to competition@primewritingacademy.com with FULL details of your name, address, telephone number and the date and method of payment, including the name you paid in. Please include a short paragraph telling us a little bit about yourself (for our use if you are a winner/runner-up only) AND please tell us where you initially heard about the competition.
Postal payment & submission: Please send your entry to: Prime Writing Academy, Nottingham Short Story Comp 2012, PO Box 10235, Nottingham NG2 9NY (also see rules). Enclose a SAE if you would like an acknowledgement of receipt. On a separate sheet to your story, give FULL details of name, postal address, email address, telephone number, and a short paragraph telling us about yourself (for our use if you are a winner/runner-up only) AND please tell us where you initially heard about the competition. Please do remember to include full payment by cheque (payable to Prime Writing Academy) or postal order in English Sterling only.
Please Note: All entrants are able to order a comprehensive Short Story Critique (Cost: £45) for each story. Please use your Paypal payment reference or details of your cheque/postal order/ BACS payment when ordering on our Manuscript Critique page. Use our contact form on the website if you have any queries. Winners paying for this service will be refunded.
Nottingham Short Story Competition Rules:
1 All entries must be in English and previously unpublished (this includes in book form or electronically for fee, eg; eReader/eBook). Stories viewed for free on websites or similar are still eligible for entry.
2 Entrants must be over 16 years of age and can live in the uk or worldwide.
3 All entries should be submitted with 1.5 or double line spacing. Postal entries should be printed on one side of the page only and pages should be numbered. Entries can be any wordcount up to 2,500 (excluding title) and can be about any subject, any genre (eg; romance, crime, fiction, memoir) and any form (eg; prose, verse, graphic).
4 Be sure to include your full name, address and telephone number in the body of your email together with payment details. Postal entries should have this information on a separate sheet of paper, personal details should not appear anywhere on your entry to ensure anonymity in the judging process.
5 You can enter as many times as you wish but each individual story must be submitted and paid for separately.
6 Payment can be made online via Paypal, by debit/credit card, by online bank transfer (contact us for account details), by cheque or postal order made payable to 'Prime Writing Academy' in English sterling only.
7 All entrants are eligible to order a critique/editing report of their short story for the price of £45. See the 'Services' section of the website for details.
8 Entries cannot be returned so please ensure you keep an original. An SAE is required for confirmation of receipt for postal entries.
9 No alterations in any form can be made following receipt of your entry.
10 All winners and runners-up must agree for Prime Writing Academy to publish their work, with option of photograph and biography, both in the Nottingham 2012 Short Story Anthology and online or electronically.
11 Prizes are £1000, £250, £125 plus a free critique of the winning stories plus publication on the Prime Writing Academy website and in the Nottingham 2012 Short Story Anthology.
12 A £50 prize will be awarded to best Nottingham/Nottinghamshire writer. If the winner is a Nottingham resident this will be deemed to be included in the prize money. Proof of residency will be required before the prize can be awarded.
13 All winners and runners-up will receive a free copy of the anthology containing their winning entries.
14 In entering the Nottingham Short Story Competition, you are agreeing to the above rules. We regret any entries which do not comply with the above rules will be disqualified.
15 We reserve the right to make changes to the closing date of the competition.
